Girls 2010's Will Play in State Cup Semi-Finals

As Mercury Soccer continues to make it's mark in southwest Ohio, our 2010's have taken a step closer to claiming this year's Ohio South State Cup! This young age group is still forming but the message is clear: quality development is happening here and great players are being attracted to this environment.

The 2010 Girls will compete against Total Futbol Academy on Saturday May 22nd for the right to play in the finals on Sunday. These two squads have met twice this season already, splitting the two matches which should make for an entertaining game.

The group is coached by Brazilian native and Mercury Technical Director Paulo Barreto. Paulo has been a fixture in the Cincinnati youth soccer landscape for nearly 20 years with a reputation for player development and teams who truly play "the beautiful game." When asked about this young team he had the following to say,

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with such a talented group of students from Mercury Soccer and happy to see that little by little, game by game, they are progressing towards a Style of Play that can look simple but is actually extremely difficult to master. I regularly see glimpses of potential as my students are starting to attempt to play soccer correctly, and when they do so consistently, rewards will follow their performance. I am proud of my students who will be competing at the State Cup Semi-Finals this weekend. Iron sharpens iron and this heightened competition will provide yet another opportunity to put this unique style of play in motion. Their willingness to learn inspires me."

Director of Coaching Brian LeFevre added,

"It's great to see the young age groups we've been building, who are now competing at top levels and experiencing success while learning the game. These players have worked so hard in training, and it's fun to see them compete and perform at this level. I'm proud of each and every one of them."

We wish our friends at Total Futbol Academy good luck this weekend, and are hoping for an exiting match where all these young athletes perform their best!
